Károlyi was the leader of the 1st Hungarian Democratic Republic, served as Prime Minister between 1 – 16 November 1918 and as President between 16 November 1918 – 21 March 1919. In 1947–49 served as the Hungarian Ambassador to France. In 1949, he resigned in protest over the show trial and execution of László Rajk, Sr.▼
